28/08/10 - 'Selected Events' 2010 San Diego date now added

Due to west coast demand, 'A Strange Hour' will be presented in San Diego at Anthology on Saturday 23rd October details below.

This event will be a 'late' show in a really eclectic venue, normally seated (with dinner!). It is quite intimate with in-house projection screens and often reserved for top jazz acts. However, for Recoil's event, a special late performance has been arranged where the seating will be removed and more space opened up so that we can turn the volume up and let our hair down.

Doors are at 10pm and Architect and Conjure One will join us for this unique evening.

27/08/10 - 'Selected Events' 2010 - NEW EURO DATES!

Share

Good news! We have received so many requests that Alan has agreed to play a few more European shows to end the year with a bang. 'A Strange Hour' is coming back to Germany for two very special events.

These presentations will take place in Berlin at Postbahnhof on Friday 26th November and in Dresden at Zeitenstroemung on Saturday 27th November - details below.

Says Alan: "We started the 'Selected' tour proper in Berlin back in March at Hansa studios. That was such a pleasure and we met so many appreciative fans that evening. Unfortunately for some, the show sold out very fast and many people missed out which is why I decided to come back and play these extra dates.

I can also tell you that there will be some changes to the presentation compared to what we did on the first leg. I am working right now on musical additions, and we have set the film-makers to work again too."

The exact line ups are still be finalised but we plan to announce one other special guest artist to join Recoil and Architect for the evenings. In Berlin, we also have an extra act - Northern Kind

We hear that both are great venues and we hope to make it a real party atmosphere going on as late as curfews allow, with additional DJs and so on. Alan will also be available for a meet and greet signing session after the performances. To avoid disappointment, we advise people to buy tickets early for these shows!

19/08/10 - 'Selected Events' 2010 - Dallas and Hamilton shows added!

More dates have been added into Recoil's US tour. We couldn't leave Texas out so 'A Strange Hour' will be presented in Dallas at Trees on Saturday 16th October. We hear that the 'Trees' venue is legendary and, following the great event in Austin last spring, Alan is very happy to be coming back to the Lone Star State. In fact, this will be the opening US event on the tour so come along and be the first to witness the new additions to Recoil's presentation.

Architect will also be appearing and there will almost certainly be a special Recoil/DM party afterwards (Alan will attend) which your show ticket will allow you access to. So bring along your CDs and vinyl if you want to get those signed - more details on that very soon.

Due to ticket demands in Canada, Recoil will also be appearing in Hamilton, Ontario at This Ain't Hollywood on 29th Oct. Architect and Conjure One will also be on the bill for this one. This venue is a bit more compact than the others and has an unusual set up. Alan and Paul plan an adapted presentation using multiple plasma screens.

22/07/10 - RECOIL / GARY NUMAN DOUBLE BILL

Share

Following Recoil's recent US leg tour announcement, we are excited to add another special date - this time at The Metro in Chicago on 26th October.

'A Strange Hour' will be presented at a unique event - a double bill featuring both Recoil and Gary Numan! Gary and his band will be performing his classic 'The Pleasure Principle' album in full. Architect are also on the bill for this show.

With layers of analogue synthesizers and futuristic, dystopian lyrics, The Pleasure Principle's 10 songs are given one-word titles; not least the massive hit single 'Cars', arguably the first British electro song to dent the US charts.

'The Pleasure Principle' is Gary Numan's most commercially successful album and is a striking turnaround from the guitar-powered, Joy Division-like post punk of his original band Tubeway Army.

Aside from bass, percussion and some strings, every instrument is electronic. For more information on the Gary Numan Pleasure Principle 2010 Tour please visit www.numan.co.uk

Tickets are available from the following outlet (www.etix.com) and are already on sale.

We strongly urge that you get yours soon as we expect they will be snapped up fast!

After the hugely enjoyable and successful jaunt around Europe, we are delighted to be able to confirm the first series of dates for the next leg of Recoil's 'Selected Events' tour 2010.

One or two more cities in South America are still to be added, and more North American/Canadian dates will follow shortly too.

Recoil recently played a show in Mexico City and if the response there is anything to go by, this upcoming leg of the tour is going to be a something special.

Says Alan "The Mexicans didn't disappoint, and I've been receiving innumerable requests from Argentinians, Chileans, Peruvians, Brazilians and many others in that part of the world for years now, pleading for a visit.

I'm really flattered to be asked of course, and looking forward to it finally happening - I know we will have an incredible time in South America. Paul Kendall and I are planning a few changes to the live set with some new films as well."

In North America and Canada, Recoil with be joined by Daniel Myer's Architect as well as Conjure One for some dates - more details on guests to follow. We are also working on a special double bill in Chicago which should be announced very soon.

18/02/10 - Alan appears on stage with Depeche Mode

After a wait of 16 years, many Mode fans' dreams came true last night when an on-stage reunion took place at The Royal Albert Hall in London. Alan appeared as a special guest during the DM show to perform the song 'Somebody' with Martin Gore.

A well-kept secret was finally revealed to an unsuspecting audience at the moment of the first encore for the band's special one-off performance at the historical venue.

This unique show was in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust with all proceeds from the show going to the charity.

You can see a clip here

Says Alan: "Dave contacted me a few weeks back and asked if I'd be willing to join them on-stage. He assured me that everyone in the band was into the idea. I was very happy to accept, especially as it was all in a good cause and we were long overdue some kind of reunion of this sort. It was great to see everyone again and catch up a bit, and it was also the first time I have actually 'seen' Depeche Mode perform!"

19/01/10 - New Nitzer Ebb remix by Alan Wilder

Alan recently remixed a track for the German edition of Nitzer Ebb's new album 'Industrial Complex'. The song is entitled 'I Am Undone' and Alan's remix is featured on a bonus disc, to be included with the album due for release by Major Records on January 22nd.

Says Alan: "My version of 'I Am Undone' was originally completed at a slower speed, an error made due to running the supplied files at the wrong tempo! (44.1khz instead of 48khz) However, I rather liked the happy accident and delivered my finished mix at the more sleazy tempo. I think it must have been a bit of a shock as Bon and Doug decided to speed it back up to its original speed. Bit of a shame from my point of view but.... oh well."

For the remix go to: discography/other

To coincide with the release of the new album, and also the Ebb's support slot on the current Depeche Mode tour, Mute are releasing 2 box sets : the 5 CD CATALOGUE including all the Mute albums - 'That Total Age', 'Belief', 'Showtime', 'Ebbhead' (produced by Alan incidentally) and 'Big Hit', and the 3 CD COMPILATION - including 'Body of Work' and 'Body Rework'. Both box sets will be available from January 25th.

Mute Store

Mute are also releasing for the first time a Nitzer Ebb collection of b-sides, remixes & rarities, comprising of 60 tracks. The digital album entitled IN ORDER is available now on iTunes.

Alan will be appearing at a few events with Nitzer Ebb either as part of Recoil's 'Selected' Events 2010 Tour, or as part of the Ebb's own Industrial Complex Tour. Try to catch some of the shows!

08/12/08 - Recoil - 'Prey' - Shotgun mix - out now

We are very happy to bring you a NEW bonus mix of 'Prey' (from the 'subHuman' album), approved by Alan Wilder and re-mixed by David Husser. David, a Frenchman, was recommended by Paul Kendall and came to work at The Thin Line earlier this year. This is what pk has to say about David:

"A distorting diamond. I had the good fortune of meeting David Husser over 6 years ago in Paris. Since then, we have collaborated on a number of projects and I have been amazed at his ability to teach an old dog new tricks. He is simply the best recording engineer I have ever met. His mixing and production skills have allowed me to sit in the corner of the studio grinning. Search for his old group 'Y Front', the album released in 2001 'Mellow Cosmos', and you will hear the excellence of his fractured guitar/bass/ programming. 15/09/08 - 'Recoil in Prague '07'

Now uploaded in 'film' you can find a new film produced, directed and edited by Igor Dvorsky. This is an in-depth account of Alan's visit to Prague at the end of summer last year when he attended a release party at The Retro Club.

Igor and his team followed Alan from the moment of his arrival at the airport to the moment of departure. Footage includes radio interviews, press conferences, meeting fans at the hotel and of course the event itself.

It also acts as a kind of EPK for the 'subHuman' album. It's atmospheric and lovingly edited and we'd like to congratulate Igor and thank him for his work on the project.

15/09/08 - Shunt -The Official Recoil Website - Version 3.0

Finally, we are proud to announce that the new website has gone on-line. By popular demand, we decided to revert back to a mainly Html site while still retaining some Flash elements. This allows viewers more flexibility. Thanks almost entirely to Oliver Thiede, this new version is virtually complete and will be regularly updated with many new features.

We hope you'll agree that the design is much more comprehensive and allows more interactivity as well as access to archive material from Shunt (version 1.0). Recoil also has a thriving interactive Myspace and Facebook presence.

We welcome your feedback.

29/02/08 - Music For The Masses - I think not

The piece behind the link below originated as an interview for Side-Line.com who have been great Recoil supporters over the years. It is not intended as a whinge but just some thoughts following Bernard Van Isacker's questions - subjects which I have been asked about a lot over recent times.

25/01/08 - 'Prey'/'Allelujah' - Enhanced CD release!

Alan Wilder is pleased to announce, due to popular demand, a limited edition CD release of ‘Prey’/’Allelujah’ on 25th February 2008.

This enhanced CD package includes ‘Prey’ mixes, the reduction mix of ‘Allelujah’ plus a never-before-seen film for 'Allelujah', directed by Dmitry Semenov.  It will also be accompanied by an exclusive downloadable booklet featuring video stills, ‘subHuman’ art and commentary from Alan Wilder, Hepzibah Sessa and Dmitry Semenov.

The CD is being issued, with the support of Mute, through Russian label Gala Records in conjunction with www.depeche-mode.ru and will be exclusively available on-line only via their website.  We highly recommend that you get your orders in quickly because only a limited number of these CDs are being produced. (Note: they will be available internationally)

There will also be a competition, available to enter when ordering the disc.  Prizes will include 5 exclusive signed printed copies of the booklet, vinyl copies of 'SubHuman', signed press shots and some other items.

Taken from 2007's 'subHuman' album, 'Prey' features the evocative vocal style and guitar talents of bluesman Joe Richardson, while ‘Allelujah’ introduces Carla Trevaskis, whose unusual atmospheric voice simultaneously contrasts and compliments Richardson.

Following on from a highly successful promotional trip to Moscow in December 2007, this release marks a unique collaboration between artist, fan website and record company.  It has come about as a direct result of fan pressure - their demands having been acknowledged and responded to by the record industry.  We believe it represents an innovative approach towards CD marketing and distribution in the future, given the current complexities of record buying trends and an industry which, frankly, is in crisis.

Recoil would like to thank Gala Records for their forward thinking, Konstantin Zavodnik for his initiative and Olga Golovan & Oleg Gorbachev for their work on the booklet.

A mention must also go to the depmod.com team who added weight to the entire cause with their ‘We Pray for ‘Prey’’ campaign launched last June, specifically asking for the CD release.  Since then, over 400 signatures have been collected with more than 30 participating websites.

The Official Recoil YouTube channel will feature the ‘Allelujah’ film in due course.  Why not also subscribe to Dmitry Semenov’s own YouTube page to keep up with other projects he is involved in:

This is available now as a high quality downloadable PDF file (7.9MB).  It also includes (in the language of your choice) an introduction from Alan and 'LOST IN TRANSLATION' - the story of the event written by Hepzibah Sessa.  For now, there are options written in English, German, French, Hungarian and Russian.  A Czech translation will be added.
